What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a therapy developed for working through distressing or traumatic memories.
During EMDR you briefly bring a memory to mind while your attention is also drawn to something else, usually by following a movement with your eyes. Over time this can make the memory less vivid and less emotionally charged, so that it can settle into the past.
EMDR is one of the treatments recommended for post-traumatic stress in international guidelines, including those of the World Health Organization.
